Freedom and Writing

daniel adlerMy Granny calls me today, tells me she doesn’t like a sentence from a few blog posts ago. That’s part of traveling, meeting people, maybe falling in love, gathering stories and experience. It’s what I must do, not necessarily to write masterpieces, but to understand people, to be free.

What is freedom? It’s doing what you want without anyone imposing limits. To a Russian, the U.S.A is free; we may even take it for granted. To people like me, “artists,” we can only be truly free by living our art. Monetary restrictions are the greatest limitations, and are overcome through sacrifice.

It’s part of my essence. I cannot resist it. I must go. Forgo what people expect because of how they envision me, for my own sake. I will not desire anything because I will be too busy enjoying glorious up-all-night sunsets; a misplaced freckle; transcending language barriers; Greek cliffs! And when I return I shall explore and share my dharma with the world, or whoever crosses my path.
