Oh travel is so exciting. On such a long journey as this two and a half week one, I feel as though I’m about to jump off a height into water. Tomorrow Matthew and I are flying to Kansas City where we’ll have a day to hang before Granny and Sukie come to meet us and head to St. Louis, then down the Mississippi River Road, on Highway 61 into the Delta and down down into New Orleans.
Then west into Texas, and San Antone, and El Paso, and into New Mexico and Arizona, through the Petrified Forest National Park and Sedona to California (oh!), Palm Springs, Los Angeles, north up to Big Sur, and Mendocino, and into the Great Northwest to Portland, where if I arrive in time I’ll be able to say hello to my family and friends before departing back home on the 23rd (This is all subject to change, of course, it being a road trip full of unexpectedness). It’s a total of nearly 4,000 miles, a touch longer than my first cross country road trip, during which we went straight west from New York until Yellowstone, then south into Utah and Death Valley, Yosemite, San Fran and north to Portland.
After this trip I’ll have 40 states under my belt, not to brag, just sayin. An American writer should know his country and not be so insular; he should see how it compares to others. That I’m saving for later…
